Red Sox Like Wilkerson?

The Red Sox are expressing interest in outfielder Brad Wilkerson, a sign that talks with Bobby Kielty are dead. Wilkerson struggled with the Rangers last season hitting .234 with 20 HR and 62 RBI in 119 games, but could make for a solid bench player. His agent, Scott Boras, hasn't lowered his asking price from three years at seven million dollars annually, so I don't expect anything to get done until he backs off those. The Red Sox already have too many outfielders, and should probably look to trade Coco Crisp before they add one more. Wilkerson is being pursued by several teams, but it is believed that the Red Sox are the front-runners because of Wilkerson's love for Boston.

This deal only works if Coco is dealt. I see this as a mild interest at best. Wilkerson could spell all three outfielders and at 1st base as well. He was a star in the making when he was with Montreal. His career has diminished but he is still a quality backup or spot starter.

I don't think that Wilkerson will end up at Boston. It just wouldn't make sense.

It doesn't make sense for anyone to want to give him anything more than a minor league contract. Hes a career .250 who had one good season back with the expos where he hit 30HR. sense then his numbers have gone down hill each year. He had shoulder surgery in 2006 and hamstring problems last season although he did play in 119 games and batted a whooping .230
