Red Sox Made Play For Marlins' Ramirez

According to SI.com, after learning that they missed out on free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira, the Red Sox asked the Marlins about the possibility of acquiring Hanley Ramirez. The Marlins were reportedly looking for a deal built around Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz, along with other top prospects, which they thought was too high of an asking price. The Red Sox planned to used Ramirez in center, while playing Lowrie and Lugo at shortstop.

This action would suggest that the Red Sox would like to add a big bat, opening up an endless amount of possibilities for who they could go after. They could contact the Twins about Joe Mauer, but the Twins probably have no interest in moving him.
