LaRussa Returning to Cardinals/McGwire to be Hired as Hitting Coach

ESPN.com's Buster Olney is reporting that tomorrow it will be announced that Tony LaRussa is returning to the Cardinals and has agreed to a multi-year deal. Earlier in the week, LaRussa was speaking publicly about the thought processes he was going through trying to decide if he would in fact, return to the Cards.  We speculated here that he was just playing with the media and now that seems all but certain to be the case.

In other Cardinals news, FoxSports.com is reporting that a source in the organization has told them that Mark McGwire will be hired as the new hitting coach and it will also be announced tomorrow. McGwire has been on the sidelines of baseball since retiring in 2001, amid allegations of performance-enhancing drug use.

Correction: LaRussa signed a one-year deal, not multi-year as reported.
