Ken Gurnick of MLB.com is reporting that Dodgers pitcher Jason Schmidt likely will retire instead of returning for a fourteenth season. Schmidt made just 10 appearances in three years for the Dodgers, missing all of the 2008 season recovering from shoulder surgery.
The 36-year old pitcher posted his best numbers with the Giants, appearing in three All-Star games as a member of the Giants. His best season came in 2004 when he went 18-7 with a 3.20 ERA and 251 strike outs.
The power-arm pitcher owns a 3.96 career ERA through 13 seasons with the Braves, Pirates, Giants, and Dodgers.
