The Rays have signed pitcher R.J. Swindle to a minor league contract, our friends over at DRaysBay.com have learned.
Swindle doesn't have a hard fastball, but he mixes in some very effective off speed pitches that make batters very uncomfortable.
The 26-year old appeared in 6 games for the Brewers last season, but was very ineffective posting a double-digit ERA. However, Swindle posted a 1.03 in 31 games at Triple-A Nashville before he was claimed by the Indians in August. In 6 minor league seasons, he has a 2.21 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP.
The lefty could find a spot in the rotation if he can prove he get lefty hitters out next Spring Training.
