Would Manny Ramirez opt out of deal?
Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has yet to exercise his 20 million dollar player option with the Dodgers for the 2010 season. MLB.com is reporting that Ramirez told teammates he would be better suited as a designated hitter, opening up speculation to Ramirez opting to sign elsewhere.
Ramirez had a disappointing second half, but finished the year with a .290 average and 19 home runs.
If Ramirez were to opt out, he certainly would not get anything close to the 20 million he will make next season. However, if Ramirez is looking to play for the next four or five seasons, perhaps he would be willing to take the cut and sign a two year deal with a team like the Orioles.
The Dodgers could always rework his deal like they did with Andruw Jones and then find a taker via trade, if Ramirez is set out being a DH.
