Mariners moving Jose Lopez to first base?
FOXSports.com's is reporting that the Mariners could consider moving Jose Lopez to first baseman and pursue one of the available second baseman. After making 15 errors at second base, moving him to the less demanding first base is intriguing.
A very interesting move considering their first baseman in 2009, Russell Branyan, clubbed 31 home runs and seems interested in returning. However, with two available Gold Glove winners in Placido Polanco and Orlando Hudson, they could solidfy their infield while adding a bat that can hit for average.
A lot will depend on how the market plays out this offseason.

This rationalizes Dustin Ackley's position shift
If the Mariners can use Polanco or Hudson’s glove and decent bat for 1 or 2 years with a decent contract, they can improve their infield (which they need after Beltre’s departure). And in 2013 Jose Lopez might turn out to be a good first baseman and Ackley will play secondbase.
There are risks involved, but personally I like this idea and it’s interesting to see which player become the Mariners starting second baseman after this winter.
