Joe Mauer wins AL MVP
Twins catcher Joe Mauer wins the AL MVP in a near unanimous vote, taking 27 of 28 first place votes. Mauer put up career highs in average, hits, home runs, on-base percentage, OPS, and walks, his best season in his six year career.
Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira and Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter followed Mauer, with Miguel Cabrera taking forth, edging out Angels first baseman Kendry Morales by one point.
Mauer is set to become a free agent after the 2010 season, and is looking for MVP dollars. Still, Minnesota is expected to make a serious push to keep the 26-year old All-Star.
