Mets interested in free agent Russell Branyan

Tim Brown of MLB Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Mets have interest in free agent first baseman Russell Branyan. Branyan put up career numbers with the Mariners this past season, hitting 31 home runs with a .347 on-base percentage.
Adding Branyan means that Daniel Murphy would start in the outfield, where he struggled mightily this past season. He rejected a one-year offer from the Mariners two weeks ago, and if he comes at a reduced price, the Mets may make a move.
