Diamondbacks Chris Snyder to Toronto?

The Arizona Republic is reporting that the Diamondbacks are discussing a trade that would send catcher Chris Snyder to the Blue Jays for first baseman Lyle Overbay

Snyder has two years and 11.25 million dollars left on his contract, but backup catcher Miguel Montero put up solid numbers this past season and has a organization friendly contract.

AZ Snakepit likes the concept of the trade, which would save the Diamondbacks a little over 2 million dollars while giving first base prospect Brandon Allen more time to develop in the minor leagues.

Overbay hit .265 with 16 home runs this past season, but cut his strike outs down by 21 from 2008 to 2009. However, Overbay was atrocious versus lefties, hitting just .190 in 79 at-bats.

Either way, the move gives the Diamondbacks a better idea of their future. Montero will be playing everyday, and if Brandon Allen proves he is ready for the major leagues, than the Diamondbacks can let Overbay walk and hopefully collect a draft pick or two, depending on the year he has.

why trade for snyder

Because the angels won’t accept overpay for napoli,….. what would it take to get napoli I wonder? the angels may be wanting to move one catcher…… I think the idea for the Jays is to get a short term replacement at catcher until their catching prospect is ready…. I would love to see overpay and wells not in a jays uniform next year….
