Astros close in on Pedro Feliz
ESPN.com is reporting that the Astros are closing in on a deal with Pedro Feliz. Feliz, who had his $5.5M club option for 2010 turned down by Philadelphia, will make $4.5M in 2010, according to Alyson Footer of MLB.com.
Feliz hit .266 last season with the Phillies, but struggled in the postseason with a .167 batting average.
Feliz, 34, will hopefully provide protection for the middle of the Astros order.

Feliz wasn't released
The Phillies declined his $5.5M team option for 2010, they didn’t release him.

And honestly, Feliz offering middle of the order protection? Really?
The guy is a very poor hitter, his value lies almost primarily in his excellent defense at third base. He hasn’t provided above average offensive production since 2004, so I doubt that Houston will rely on him in the middle of their order..

Remember that this is the guy who wrote few blunders like:
Beltre, 30, is pretty inconsistent at the plate and not a very reliable fielder

Juan Pierre is one of the top leadoff hitter (.348 career OBP) and on base runner ( 33.7% career CS%) in the game

So I’m not surprised to read that he thinks that Feliz will provide middle of the order protection nor that he thought that he was released!
SB nation should DFA him asap if you ask me: He has no idea what he’s writing about!
