Day 2 Winter Meetings

Woke up to some arbitration news this morning:

Rafael Betancourt- Accepted arbitration from Rockies.

Brandon Lyon- Declined arbitration from Tigers.

Carl Pavano- Accepted arbitration from Twins.

Rafael Soriano- Accepted arbitration from Braves.

Jose Valverde- Declined arbitration from Astros.

Mark DeRosa- Decline arbitration from Cardinals.

Matt Holliday- Ditto.

Jason Bay- Declined arbitration from Red Sox.

RUMORS

The Red Sox are talking with the agents of Justin Duchscherer and Rich Harden this week in Indianapolis.

Nick Piecoro of the AZ Republic is reporting that the Diamondbacks and Tigers are discussing a deal around Edwin Jackson. One source thinks the Tigers will ask for Jarrod Parker or Stephen Drew

The Mariners hope to meet with Darrin Oliver's representatives this week.

Rays catcher Dioner Navarro is drawing mild interest on the trade market.

The White Sox, Cardinals, and Padres are among a half-dozen teams interested in Coco Crisp.

MISCOMMUNICATION AT THE MARRIOT

As I made my way back to my room, I over heard some chatter about Randy Wolf closing in on a deal with the Brewers. I saw a couple familiar faces in the lobby/bar area, so I decided to check things out. After confirming that they met last night, it seemed I would wake up to a completed deal.

This morning, I'm hearing the Mets are making a late push for his services and his agents confirmed that he is still a free agent.

The Cubs, who were believed to be interested in the pitcher, are focusing solely on moving Milton Bradley at the moment.

Awful deal for Arizona.

If the D-Backs have to give up Max Scherzer or Jarrod Parker in order to land Jackson, then Josh Byrnes should turn that down immediately. Scherzer is already arguably better than Jackson, and he’s under control for three more years, and Parker was arguably the best pitcher left in the minors (pre-Strasburg) before needed surgery late in the season. If he’s healthy, he’s a potential ace and one of the best starters in the minors. You don’t give up that kind of talent for a fringe #3 like Jackson.

To Mark and Matt

Derosa you might have a hot wife but you don’t have any baseball sense..your a platoon guy that would be a mainstay in the Cards order..Go to the Yanks or Sox and Fizzle…we only gave up a Dirty Perez for you any how. As for Holliday you dropped the ball and I wouldnt mind seeing you ran out of town on the back of your butt buddie Boras

Some days you live some days you die and some days you just want to create a redwing just to kill it......
