The Cubs have placed 2008 NL Rookie of the Year catcher Geovany Soto on the disabled list with a strained left oblique and called up outfielder Sam Fuld in his place. Koyie Hill will take over in the meantime and Jake Fox, who is hitting .311 with 4 home runs in 27 games this season, will be the back up catcher.
Soto is hitting a disappointing .230 with 8 home runs in 69 games this season, and hopefully the time off will give the Cubs a rejuvenated catcher in two weeks. The injury does give manager Lou Piniella a way to give prospect Jake Fox more at-bats.
