Red Sox DFA Julio Lugo

The Boston Red Sox have designated shortstop Julio Lugo for assignment, this according to Rod Bradford of WEEI.com

The Sox will now have 10 days to assign Lugo's contract to another major or minor league team, either via trade or waivers.

Lugo name was recently brought up in trade rumors, but his $10 million price tag makes him virtually impossible to deal.

The Sox

The signing team pays him a prorated portion of the league minimum salary and the Red Sox are responsible for the rest of his contract.
