Ricciardi Sets July 28th as Deadline for Halladay Deal
Citing the complicated nature of a prospective deal that would move ace Roy Halladay, Blue Jays GM JP Ricciardi said he is making July 28th the last day he will consider trade offers. He said it will take extra time to iron out details. Halladay is signed through 2010 and has a no-trade clause.
"In three days, not much is probably going to happen," Ricciardi said. "It's such a magnitude, the trade. He's got to OK the team he's going to, we've got to agree on prospects. That doesn't happen, traditionally in baseball, in one hour. I think we need a little more time than that."
UPDATE:
Earlier, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark informed us that Toronto GM J.P. Ricciardi has refuted earlier reports that a deal for Roy Halladay had to be done by July 28th. "Look, if we're on the precipice of getting something done and we have to go into the 29th, we're not going to draw a line in the sand," said Ricciardi.

Interesting note from Gammons last night
He also added another note about the July 28 deadline. He said it’s likely that Ricciardi would want to allow time to move other pieces after Halladay including Scutaro, Rolen and possibly Rios. Basically it appears if they move Halladay it’s going to be a full fire sale.
