Around SBN: How Not To Criticize Tom Brady For The Patriots' Loss

Ricciardi Will Charge Premium for Yanks and BoSox for Halladay

The Toronto Globe and Mail is reporting that Blue Jays GM JP Ricciardi is extending his self-imposed deadline of today for trading Roy Halladay because there are at least two teams who have caught his attention.  While the Phillies may or may not have cooled in their quest for the ace, these other teams are talking seriously enough for Ricciardi to listen.

While  other Blue Jays sources are confirming that the odds of a Halladay deal happening appear "remote", they also say that Ricciardi will charge those two teams a "premium" as the added cost of having him remaining in the AL East.

The paper is reporting that Jays execs have their eyes on  Red Sox prospects closer Daniel Bard and starter Clay Buchholz.

it's a tough sell

Jays and their fans have long hated the Red Sox and Yankees for their unlimited budgets then to go and hand them one of the best pitchers in the game – it wouldn’t sit well it Toronto that’s for sure (no matter what they got in return)

I don't get that

The objective is to get the best group of players available. The Blue Jays are not handing either of those teams anything as they figure to get something substantial in return. The point is that you won’t be competing this year and from the looks of it management doesn’t believe you will compete next year (or else there is no sense in trading Halladay) so the plan should be to work out the best trade available. The Blue Jays should not be concerned with where Halladay ends up for the next 1.5 years.

Of course they will

Im also sure that Riccardi is getting a nice Family Guy laugh in at the Red Sox offer of Bucholz (excellent prospect, but horribly overrated by NE sports cronies), Bowden and Westmoreland( who can’t even be traded cuz he’ll go to college…)

Umm...

Westmoreland’s signed and is playing already, Bradshaw.

the red sox offer of Buchholz, one of Bowden/Masterson/Lars Anderson, and lesser prospects is by far the best offer given to the jays. If I can get Buchholz and Lars plus some low level high upside guys I think you’d have to take that. It doesn’t look like you’ll do better than that offer if you’re the jays and his value is only going to go down from here. Yes you’re helping the sox in the near future but you’re significantly weakening their future core since they’ve been counting on significant contributions from clay and lars starting in the next year or two.
