Rangers Unwilling To Part With Prospects For Halladay
T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com, reports that the Rangers are unwilling to part with their top prospects for Roy Halladay.
Sullivan notes that the Blue Jays have asked for an enormous package reportedly consisting of Derek Holland, Justin Smoak and Julio Borbon.
We've noted in the past that the Rangers may have several financial complications completing a deal for Halladay, but according to Sullivan, the Rangers were willing to work around those issues in order to get a deal done.
However, given the Rangers unwillingness to part with several of their key prospects, any potential deal with Halladay remains unlikely.

I wouldn't deal Holland or Smoak either.
Smoak is just like Longoria and LaPorta talent wise with the bat. I followed all 3 in college along with Timmy Lincecum during his time at Washington. But all of these guys hit the ball extremely hard and have some of the sweetest swings I’ve ever seen. Of course Longoria is a class ahead because of his just flat out amazing defense.
Holland is a great left handed pitcher that’s already in the majors. He’ll be their ace for a long time.
However, I would move Feliz. I think he’s the lesser of Holland and Smoak.
Randy Wells. A product of the Roy Halladay School of Pitching, located in Toronto, Canada. Possible relocation.
Why should they part with that package? It’s easily the best that I’ve heard connected to the Jays other than perhaps the ridiculous proposal the Jays made to the Yanks where they asked for Hughes/Joba?, Montero, Jackson, and another I think

Jays should be asking for the world
cuz they don’t have to deal him.
If someone wants him and the deal is right, they will trade him.
There’s no sense in taking any less than what they ask for.
IF a team is dumb enough to give up all these kids, then they will get Halladay.

stuck with carlos gomez
You’re right in that the Jays don’t have to trade Halladay now, and they should push aggressively. BUT it looks inevitable that they will lose Halladay after next year. They’ll probably get less in return during the offseason, and certainly much less if they trade him at next year’s trade deadline. If they play “chicken” for too long and keep holding out, they could end up getting just 1 top prospect (LaPorta for CC) or none at all (Twins getting mediocre prospects led by Gomez for Johan).
