How about Zach Duke?

By Michael Belanger

Man what a frustrating outing for Zach Duke, he was simply amazing tonight in the 0-1 loss against the Giants. Duke pitched 7 shutout innings, Allowed 6 hits and walked 1 batter.

This 26 year old left handed pitcher is defiantly special, currently with a 9-9 record. He has been at the bad end of the string all season long. In 6 of his 9 losses the Pirates have lost by 2 or less runs. Once again tonight his offense couldn’t put runs up on the board. Now that the Pirates are rebuilding there is no one to drive in the runs. For the Giants, Cain was on the mound, he pitched a brilliant game with a complete game shutout allowing 3 hits.

I’ve have been saying that the Marlins should trade for Duke. Which would provide another solid arm to the rotation; no-one seems to agree with me. Duke is turning into a solid arm in the majors, and deserves to win. He’s dropped his ERA to 3.26 tonight, and pitched 147 innings allowing 35 walks this season. I’m just trying to show some shine on this guy because no-one is noticing him.

I’ve heard the braves are looking at him but who ever gets him will defiantly get something in return.

Rumor had it..

that the Phillies were thinking about making a move to get him. I actually read on their site that Manager Charlie Manuel was essentially pleading with GM Ruben Amaro Jr. to go out there and try to get Duke.

I, personally, am a huge Phillies fan, and I would’ve loved to have seen this deal get made. But with the recent addition of Cliff Lee to the rotation I don’t see how it could possibly get done. In all honesty, I think that J.A. Happ for Zach Duke straight up would be a good trade for both sides. With the talent the Phillies have in the minors, 1 or 2 of their good young pitchers are somewhat disposable. And adding a solid young arm like J.A. Happ to the Buccos could be the veteran leadership they need, HA.

As a Pirates fan, I’d like to see Duke get dealt because he is at peak value right now. But it looks like the Bucs are done making moves this season.

You never know

The Yankees could always sweep in and take him now that their other targets are gone.
