Derrek Lee as trade bait?

After Derrek Lee's explosive offensive performance last night, which included a grand slam and a total 7 RBIs, it seems like a good time to contemplate his trade value for the Cubs.  I know Cubs fans will jump all over this but his value may never be higher than right now as he is seen around the league as carrying a once, highly touted but now struggling offense. He is viewed as a class act and a clubhouse leader who could help in ways beyond the field.

The likelihood that the Cubs will dramatically rebound in the second half of the season is looking less and less likely, making their veteran  first baseman expendable, in exchange for some young building blocks for the future.

Huh?
The likelihood that the Cubs will dramatically rebound in the second half of the season is looking less and less likely,

Why? Because their best hitter Ramirez is coming off the DL and they still have the best starting staff in the NL?

Although I agree with the theory

trading Lee is a bad idea. First off his contract is too big for anyone to really take on to get anything of huge value back in return.

But as you mention, the Cubs are still in it. If they win 3 of 4 from the Brewers this weekend and they are in the thick of things.

If anything the Cubs are buyers at the deadline.

You might also want to mention....

…the fact that he has a No Trade Clause in his contract.
