Red Sox Step In Full Pursuit Of Adrian Gonzalez

Update 1:07 ET: John Heyman of SI.com reports that the Red Sox and Padres continue to talk about an Adrian Gonzalez deal, but the Red Sox want to include Clay Buchholz, Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson, however, the Padres also want Lars Anderson and Ryan Westmoreland.  Yikes!

According to Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden of the New York Daily News, the Boston Red Sox are in "full pursuit" of San Diego Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez.

Furthermore, the duo notes the Padres may be willing to include closer Heath Bell in the deal if the Red Sox agree to throw in young right-hander Daniel Bard.

Presumably any package for Gonzalez would also include the Red Sox's top prospect Clay Buchholz.

A. Gonzalez

What do they do with LaRoche then? I guess Gonzalez is a temporarily cheaper, not-as-good version of Mark Teixeira.

Gonzalez Home/Road Splits

For his career
Home: .260 | .350 | .443 | .793
Road: .293 | .362 | .552 | .914

This year
Home: .241 | .417 | .464 | .881
Road: .262 | .371 | .599 | .970

I’m thinking San Diego’s park hurts him a lot. He’s an MVP candidate if he gets out of that park.

Likely

They would try to move LaRoche as well.

How come everyone

refuses to think the Padres won’t consider Casey kelley? Boston believes he just might be Jesus, and Gonzo is an excellent cheap elite player, why the hell would they start with only Bucholz?

If the Padres don’t ask for at least Bucholz, Bard and Kelley, they are getting a raw deal.

Your out of your mind

This would be an absurd deal to send all of that package to SD where they will inevitably kill all of their careers! The Sox initial offer of Clay Bucholz should have and is good enough for them to replenish there depleted pitching staff!!

Because he's untouchable...

ACCORDING TO THE RULES – within one year of signing his first pro contract, can’t be traded. Same with Manifest Destiny (Westmoreland).
