So does this mean no more Adrian Gonzalez?
I’d imagine Martinez plays a lot of 1st now.
Not Really
I see a the chance of getting both and platooning tek and v-mart plus youk/gonzo at 1st and youk/lowell at 3rd and some combo of all of them plus pappi at dh pleanty of rest for all
TheBigRib
Why not it could work
Don’t forget Ortiz may not play as much so those players could also DH and Youk can play the outfield.

Youk in the OF?
Id be down for that too!!
He’s an average 3B. He’s a Gold glove caliber 1st baseman. Any time you guys want to move him away from 1st is OK with me. Its like Texiera for the Yanks. He played 3rd at GT and Im sure he could fill in for A-Rod if needed and be as good as Youk at 3rd.
But why?
That’s just too many 1st baseman and guys playing out of position to make sense. You can do it, you can also drive a car with your feet. THat doesn’t make it a good idea.

Nice.
Im glad for this. Considering V-Mart is a worse defender than Lowell at his position, he’ll move an excellent fielding 1st baseman in Youkilis from his position, and also the fact that Martinez is NOT much if any better than Mike Lowell.
Considering they were in on Adrian Gonzalez, this is great news for a Yankee fan. V-Mart, like the Red Sox, was good in April, May and early June. Now? Yesterday’s news.
My guess is that they had to many obstacles in the way for Gonzalez
But I’m inclined to agree with you. I don’t really see how this improves the team a whole lot.
It really doesnt much
Other then the fact that he can play two – three positions it doesnt help..much his production lately has been poor but so has gonzo’s the last month!!!
TheBigRib
Gonzo's
production only is down simply because you don’t have to pitch to him. No one gets on in front of him, and no one knocks him in when he gets on.
So why would you even pitch to the guy?
And then when they do, he’s so surprised that he sees a strike he doesn’t do much with it.
If he batted in a lineup like the Red Sox, that would have been scary.

no word on anything.
I’m pretty sure Bowden’s in there tho.

Doubtful
more like a nobody from single A with a 97 mph fastball and is an injury risk. The Indians like guy with high ceiling with little ability to actual reach it.

nah...
why say that?
I keep hearing that they lost the Cliff Lee deal, but Carassco is still one of their best prospects if not their best.
by FreeBradshaw on Jul 31, 2009 2:42 PM EDT up reply actions
not the
way has looked this year. Carassco reminds me of Andy Marte. High ceiling apparency, young for his league but fails in AAA and above.

eh...
Carasco still has as much potential as any B+ Pitching prospect. He also got a few other real nice players. The only “Single A guy who throws 97” was Knapp I think.
by FreeBradshaw on Jul 31, 2009 2:50 PM EDT up reply actions
That guys arm
is going to blow up if he doesn’t change his mechanics. (Knapp) We will see on Carassco but again why has his development stalled? Sound familiar.

true
mechanics are a funny thing. You got guys like Lincecum and then you got guys like Mark Prior.
Carassco who knows. Maybe he’s just stalled with the Phillies. Maybe the Indians call him up, cuz they need to, and he does well.
He might be shot, he might just need a change of scenery, or just the new coaches can “fix” him.
Its just too early to even say the Indians got a raw deal on any of these.
by FreeBradshaw on Jul 31, 2009 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions
My guess
the Indians don’t call up Carassco this year. Then give him a chance to win a spot next year.

Clay and Bard
are way to much to pay for V-Mart. My guess is someone no one knows about the Indians are very poor at trades.

I heard it on MLB network too
that’s a win right there Id say.
But I still don’t see where he helps. With all these guys, Laroche still is there too isn’t he?

$7 Million club option
So basically yes

Sound like and Indians deal
to me. Masterson is a nice bullpen guy nothing more. Hagadone as far as I know is about the same.

was gonna say
Shapiro isn;t the greatest GM, but if that was it he would be the worst.

PTNL
guaranteed the Indians love those even though I can’t ever recall an impact PTNL. Heck not many PTNL even make the majors.

Looks like 3rd Player
Is Bryan Price
Sickels: “High upside arm, though he might advance more slowly if used as a starter than as a reliever.”

Three bullpen arms
for an All Star ? Is this the best Shapiro can do? We all know bullpen pitchers are inconsistent and this deal could look awful in a few years. Good one not Sharp Shapiro.

Weak return
Masterson could be a back of rotation guy, he’s started 15 games with 9 QS’s over past 2 seasons. But he’s more effective in relief. Hagadone has all of 25 ip since having TJ surgery. Price has a 6.5 ERA in high A ball this year after a 2.5 ERA in low A last year.
And Martinez is under control for $7M next year. I think that’s a pretty weak trade for the Tribe.
