Mets release Livan Hernandez
The New York Post is reporting that the Mets have released starter Livan Hernandez to make room for reliever Billy Wagner. Hernandez has been a disappointment for the Mets this season, with opposing hitters hitting .312 against him. He has trouble with his command, leading to an increase in walks and homeruns, despite being in a pitcher friendly stadium.
Hernandez may not be on the free agent market for long. Hernandez is an innings-eater, and the Athletics are in the market for starters in an attempt to not overwork their young pitchers.
Oakland is 21 games out of first, with playoff chances all but down the drain. Bringing in a veteran like Hernandez on a reduced price, although it may not produce wins, would give manager Bob Geren a way to keep his young pitchers innings down.

This season? Between Minnesota and Colorado last season, opposing hitters collectively became Manny Ramirez against Livan.
Waste of space.

If LIvan was a disappointment, I can’t imagine what the Mets were thinking given his “performance” since 2006 and especially starting in 07.
