Royals pursuing Jonny Gomes, Marcus Thames
While the Royals just added outfielder Scott Podsednik, FOX SPORTS is reporting that the Royals are looking for a power hitting outfielder and DH to split time with oft-injured outfielder Jose Guillen.
The Royals are more right-handed, leading some to believe they could pursue free agent Rick Ankiel; however, the Royals are looking to add more power to their lineup and believe free agents like Jonny Gomes or Marcus Thames can provide that power.
The Reds have backed off of Gomes and since the Mariners landed Milton Bradley, Thames is left with few options. One source believes the Royals will watch both players closely at the winter warmup, a newly implemented program for remaining free agents looking for work.

I dont know what the Reds are thinking, but it would be better for everyone if they traded Gomes out of AAA to the Royals. I dont know the reason behind acquiring Gomes and then sending him to AAA.
But as we have all seen over the past 15 years this team really doesnt know which direction its heading
