Royals sign Rick Ankiel

The Royals have signed outfielder Rick Ankiel to a one year deal worth 3.25 million dollar deal with a 6 million dollar mutual option for 2011.

Very surprised to see Ankiel land a mutual option after hitting a disappointing .231 in 2009, but hey, that what happens when Scott Boras is your agent. 

Ankiel's swing is very susceptible to lefties, as seen in his '09 splits. In 94 at-bats versus lefties, Ankiel struck out 29 times to just 2 walks.

The Royals were pretty much out of options here, but should hope he can bounce back and have a healthy, productive season, or otherwise, I don't really see how this could end well.
