A's prospect Grant Desme retires to pursue priesthood
Well, this is a bizarre one.
Baseball America rated him the number eighth best prospect in the A's organization after an impressive showing in the Arizona Fall League, following a breakout year for the 2007 second round draft pick.
Desme hit .288 with a 31 home runs and a .365 on-base percentage in 131 games last season, seemingly poised for a Double-A assignment in 2010.
Desme told officials that he is very serious about the decision, something we are all just going to have to accept.

Bizarre, for sure.
Good for him, I guess.
Galactus does as he pleases. Because Galactus is drunk.
I have a five-tool player in my pants.
Interesting
Good for him if he thinks it will make him happier or more fulfilled. It is very hard to give up the “obvious” path, to money, or celebrity, or excitement, but he’s going to feel real good about himself for it.
Still, it’s surprising that he didn’t want to wait to give baseball a shot, and then go into the seminary. You can play baseball, and go back later to the priesthood, but I don’t think it works the other way around.
I respect his decision.......
When asked what aspects of Heyward’s game need improvement, one scout simply replied, "Nothing."
Too bad they couldn't worked out a trade to the Padres!!
Think of the promotional opportunities!
