Report: Phillies sign Jose Contreras

ESPN Deportes is reporting that the Phillies have signed free agent right-hander Jose Contreras to a one-year deal. 

Contreras gives the team an extra arm in the bullpen, perhaps someone who will compete for the fifth spot in the starting rotation. 

Contreras, who was also drawing interest from the Cubs, posted a 1.59 ERA in 7 appearances. He finished the year with a 4.92 ERA and 1.47 WHIP.
