FOX SPORTS is reporting that the Padres added free agent right hander Jon Garland on a one year deal worth 4.7 million dollars. This is a solid move for the Padres, and I'm sure that several teams will be monitoring him all season long.

The Padres have been strapped for cash all offseason. Adding Garland and trading him for prospects at the deadline, assuming he performs, will help the Padres replenish their minor league system and take some of the pressure off their young pitchers. 

Garland was 11-13 with a 4.01 ERA in 33 starts with the Diamondbacks and Dodgers.
