Thursday Morning Quick Hits

  • The Miami Herald is reporting that the Marlins continue to look for bullpen help and could target reliever Kevin Gregg. Gregg, who was traded by the Marlins before last season for prospect Jose Ceda, struggled to find his role in the Cubs bullpen and his performance suffered. Sources say the Marlins are monitoring several relievers, so they will probably take their time making a decision.
  • The Hall of Fame decided that Andre Dawson will wear an Expos hat on his plaque, despite his requests to be in a Cubs hat. Dawson spent ten years in Montreal, but its clear that his years with the Cubs were certainly the ones that elevated him to near-immortal status. Regardless, Dawson told reporters he will show his appreciation to Cubs fans at his induction speech.
  • The Cardinals signed lefty starter Rich Hill and invited him to spring training. This is certainly a story to keep an eye on. Hill had success in the NL central before confidence issues hurt his consistency. Let's see if pitching coach Dave Duncan can work his magic and turn Hill into a solid middle-of-the rotation starter.
  • Jarrod Washburn is still drawing interest from the Twins and Mariners, and it is possible the Mets will enter the mix.
  • John Fay is tweeting that the Reds touched based with agent Scott Boras, leading to speculation about who they could be going after. Johnny Damon, Felipe Lopez, Garrett Anderson, Hank Blalock, and Eric Gagne, among others, are all Scott Boras clients.
  • Kenny Lofton will be inducted into the Indians' Hall of Fame this season. One of the top leadoff hitters in the game, Lofton played hard, scored runs, and made great plays in the field... wherever he went.
  • MLB.com is reporting that Diamondbacks ace is resided to becoming a free agent after this upcoming season. If Webb has any sort of dominant first half, you can count on the Diamondbacks trying to move him for a fresh group of young prospects.
