Cardinals closing in on deal for Matt Holliday
FOXSports.com's Jim Bowden is reporting that the Cardinals and Matt Holliday are closing in on a 5-6 year deal worth 98.5 million dollars.
The Cardinals were all but out of the race for Holliday a couple of weeks ago, when talks reached an impasse and Holliday was talking with the Mets and Angels. After those talks failed to materialize into a formal contract offer, Boras returned to the Cardinals to receive the best offer possible.
In the end, Holliday made the right decision. His numbers were seriously improved by Albert Pujols, and vice-versa. Having the additional lineup presence that was missing in Oakland and Colorado was apparent in 2009, after Holliday hit .353 with 13 home runs in 63 games with the Cardinals.

The Angels were never interested in Holliday this off season.
Owner Arte Moreno stated that very early there was no interest in him.

I can understand why they were rumored though.
They had the need since they lost a lot of good players, and they have the money. Signing him means they could flip Rivera for some pitching, like Lowe or something.
Also, the Yankees taught me never to trust what the team actually says.
Anyway, i just want this ordeal to be over. Mozeliak deserves applause if he lands Holliday for 6/98.5. That is just fantastic, even 5/98.5 is not that bad. Balls of steel baby.
In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.
In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"

Standing up to Boras.
He’s played all his cards and isn’t the “genius” he once was thought to be.

Nice unintentional pun :)
He’s a damn fine agent, but Mo got the player he needed to have that the FA class simply didn’t offer other than Holliday himself.
