Why do you love baseball?

It's a simple question - but the answers are as different as one can imagine. I asked this on my blog "The Baseball Docent" and responses have been heart felt, entertaining, funny, and so much more. Bloggers, fans, friends, and even strangers have replied. Their stories are amazing. So... Why do you love baseball? Have you ever really thought about it? Think about it. Write it down and share it with others. It's a great exercise in my opinion.

Hmm...why do i like baseball?

Many reasons. For a few hours each day it allows me to escape. Nobody bothers me. Its absolutely fascinating. All the different outcomes. Everything that can go wrong or right. If you know whats going on its extremely fun to watch.

It's a basic sociology question

And a good one at that. I’ve commented on this subject before and realize that many people can only talk sports after you give them a stat sheet and an injury report, but ask them why they care at all and they have a hard time putting their passion into words. I understand that this is particularly about the great sport of baseball, but I found this quote to be a good answer:

“Why does anyone watch sports? It’s a socialization tool, it gives one a feeling of belonging to a community without being intrusive on a personal level, it has pageantry, festivity and drama and still allows for competition and ritual tribalism, and it creates a spectacle of exemplary physical and mental feats. So you get to go to a game, or watch it on tv, and feel like you’re part of something extraordinary when all you’re doing is yelling at a bunch of grown men beating the crap out of each other, doing things you’ll never be able to do in your life. It’s euphoric and addictive and brilliant, just like it was for the Romans in the Coliseum.” – Jay P.

Well

Baseball was the first sport I ever loved, and one of the first things I ever loved. I am 14 now, and fell in love with the game at 11.
As a young kid, the Red Sox were always on at my house. I always heard my parents talk about Manny and Nomar and Pedro. Here and there i would watch, but always half heartidly.
One day I decided i wanted to have something in common with my faimily, so I got up at 6:00 am to watch the Red Sox in japan, and got hooked for life.
Now all I want is to write about baseball, and that is what my career will be, I hope.
I love baseball because it made me connect with people.

I have been playing it all my life...

but every aspect of the game gets me. I like the trades, signings, farm system, the big league, everything about it. I also like how people can discuss the game like crazy, arguments about everything can erupt.
