Congrats to Posey and Feliz

Both voted Rookie of the Year for their respective leagues today, by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Obviously, both were very deserving - but here are some quick observations:

  • The original BBWAA posting didn't even get Heyward's name right. Oops (Thanks to Craig Calcaterra's tweet on that screen grab).
  • Gaby Sanchez is nice and all, but two writers actually gave him first place votes. Really?
  • Someone voted for John Jaso. Honestly. They even put him 2nd on their ballot.
  • There are 32 voters. Buster Posey and Jason Heyward are only on 31 ballots. Yes, one voter left Posey entirely off their ballot and another left Heward entirely off their ballot. Someone should lose their voting rights...

Things should only get more interesting this week with the NL Cy Young tomorrow, Managers of the Year on the 17th and the AL Cy on the 18th...

Update via Andrew Baggerly: Only voter to omit Jason Heyward was Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He had Posey first, and two Pirates (Walker, Tabata). Only voter to omit Buster Posey was Yasushi Kikuchi of Kyodo News, LA-Anaheim Chapter. He had 1. Sanchez, 2. Heyward, 3. Garcia.
