Nationals sign outfielder Jayson Werth
In a very interesting turn of events, the Nationals have signed a franchise caliber player in outfielder Jayson Werth to a seven year deal worth 126 million dollars, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman.
Werth is coming off a solid year, hitting .296 with 27 home runs and a .388 on-base percentage. He has proven to be premier player in the NL East by putting up three solid seasons with the Phillies, and by leaving Philly and heading south down I-95 to the D.C. Nats certainly will rattle some cages.
The deal makes it even more essential for teams to lock up a solid offensive player.

Jason must be a sado-masochist or something. Going from 1st to worst. He’ll flounder statistically in that ballpark..
Phils fans will most certainly be heartbroken to a point, but ultimately will say good riddance. He may be “Werth” $18 million per year to some, but not to a team that has a budding star ready to take his spot, and the option of getting in someone who could cost less and do a decent job too. The Phils have solid pitching, but their strength will be measured by their hitters, who actually need a new hitting coach and at least two right-handed bats to break up that lineup card a bit.
Should be interesting to see Amaro’s counter in this turn of events……
terrible deal
