A's sign Gabe Gross, end Johnny Damon pursuit

The A's signed left-handed hitting outfielder Gabe Gross to a one year deal, satisfying Oakland's need for a left-handed bat off the bench.

Gross, a career .239 hitter, has struggled in his past two season in Tampa Bay, but perhaps the A's hope his .251 average versus righties will help fortify the bench.

Johnny Damon has exhausted another option. The A's going with a cheaper option over Damon would suggest that Damon is holding out for a certain amount of money. Unless the Tigers decide to reenter the mix, it is possible he could end up in Toronto.
