Indians eyeing three sluggers
The Cleveland Plain-Dealer is reporting that the Indians have their eyes on free agent sluggers Russell Branyan, Jermaine Dye, and Hank Blalock. All three could potentially play first base for the Tribe, or at least split time with prospect Matt LaPorta.
Branyan is coming off the best year of his career and still has a fairly high asking price. They may be better off going with Jermaine Dye, a good clubhouse guy who still can swing a fairly good bat. Blalock is coming off his first full season (still missed 500 at-bats) in over two years, and after hitting .201 from the All-Star break, a low-base salary type deal makes some sense.
The Marlins, Mets, and Orioles all have some interest in landing a first baseman, but sources say everyone is waiting for prices to come down some. The Twins do have an opening at third base, but after adding Orlando Hudson, it is unlikely they will make any more moves.

Orioles need for a 1Bman
Eli, you keep mentioning the O’s needing a firstbaseman. When they signed Tejada, Atkins moved to 1B. They also have a full time DH in Luke Scott. They are not looking to add any of these 1B options even if the guy would split as a DH.
They have to be careful with DH so they can insert Weiters there as he will not catch 40 times during the season. He will DH at least 25 games or more. They willo also likely DH Reimold 20-30 games to get Pie playing time in LF. So they also don’t want these guys as a DH option either.
NO 1Bman needed in Baltimore. Not worth mentioning.
