Report: Marlins seriously pursuing Russell Branyan
According to sources, the Marlins are stepping up their pursuits for free agent Russell Branyan. Branyan was reportedly looking for a multi-year deal worth between 9-10 million dollars, but apparently no one was interested in paying him anywhere near that much.
The Marlins are believed to be looking to sign Branyan on a one year, incentive-laden contract. If they sign him, it would push Gaby Sanchez back to Triple-A for another season.
Branyan really has not drawn much interest elsewhere as of late. The Mets had some interest, but they are focusing on a catcher and may not want to spend on a first baseman as well.
The Pirates, Orioles, and Indians could all potentially be in the first base market.

The Pirates are starting the year with Jeff Clement at first base and the Orioles have Garrett Atkins.. they aren’t really in the 1B market..
