What about the team, itself?

Hey, Eli

Can’t argue with your projections. But what about the Jays’ won-lost record?

I figure the Jays will win 58 games in 2010 and finish last overall. Some of the Toronto BR writers were so outraged that they threatened me, albeit mildly. One of them said, “I’m going to hold you to that.” Whatever that means.

I recently opted for fan free-agency and switched allegiance to the Yankees after being a Jays fan for 25 years. You know, for “a chance to win”. Tex, CC and AJ moved to NYY for the chance to win and $423 million. I did it for nothing.

Projections aren't even close.

First, I expect the Jays to finish 80 – 82 for the following reason.
They have healthy pitchers entering 2010 and they are more than capable of posting winning records. Don’t forget that Burnett was a career 12 game winner and won 18 with the Jays. In New York’s circus, he reverted to his 12 wins again, with an all star lineup. Hand grenade Ryan is no longer in the mix. Downs and Frazior have arrived and are very capable of holding a lead in the 8th and 9th innings. Gregg is also an option. Never underestimate a team, because you will be proved wrong every time. Where did you get your journalist degree – from a box of cracker jack?
Second: If you switch allegiance to the Yankees, it explains why you would post things that aren’t close to reality. Like most Yankee fans, you see the negative in all things and ignore the positives.
Third: I expect most of the players you have projected to exceed those totals by a wide margin. What did you do, throw numbers in a hat, pick them out, and then assign them to a player?
Fourth: I have been a fan of the team since it was created in 77 and I see this team resembling the great teams of 85, 89, 92, and 93. NO ONE knows when a group of players bond in a special way and exceed their own expectations. Perhaps you have forgotten Tampa Bay in 2008 that were picked to finish last and beat the Yankees and Red Sox.
