New Wild Card system
I had an idea a while ago of making the playoffs in mlb more accessible to teams that typically find themselves left out of the playoffs despite good records. My idea was to do a 1 game or a 3 game playoff between the top 2 teams in the wild card hunt. The AL wild card has only gone to a non AL East team 4 times since it was implemented in 1995. Many teams are frustrated by the dominance of the AL East and this rule could increase their chances of making the playoffs. The rule would give the team with the best record home field advantage and would take place one day after the end of the regular season. If it was a 3 game playoff then they could do either a doubleheader followed by a night game the next day. The doubleheader could take place at either the #1 teams home field or at a neutral location and then the night game at either the #2 teams field or #1 teams field in the case of a neutral location doubleheader. Please leave your feedback about my idea, especially whether you like the idea of a 1 game playoff or 3 game playoff better. Also please mention any ideas you have.

I think the MLB should adopt an NFL style playoff system. Have the top two teams from the AL and NL get a bye in the first round and have #3 play #6, and #4 play #5 in a best of 3 series. And in order to cut down on travel, the bottom seed gets the first home game, but games 2 and 3 are played in the top team’s stadium (i.e. 3v6 – fist game is @6 and then the next two are @3). The reason this series is only 3 games is because the MLB season does go on quite far into October and sometimes November, and depending on where you are playing, it can be very cold (cough*minnesota*cough) that time of year.

Not really possible
I don’t see the MLB playoffs expanding anytime soon. The reason being the pitching. When teams get into the post season they usually start using a limited number of pitchers. They most likely use only 4 starters and in the world series you may only see 3 different starters for each team. This is one problem with MLB playoffs is that it takes them all 5 starting pitchers to get there and then once they get there the 4th and 5th starter are lucky if they even get used out of the bullpen. Bud Selig needs to eliminate some off days in the post season so that teams are forced to use at least 4 starters and then possible only pitch there ace on short rest.

I like the wild card the way it is. it has been working and more teams at the end of the
season have a chance to get that last playoff spot. that creates more excitement.
