Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez suspended 50 games
Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez has been suspended for 50 games after testing positive for a substance banned by Major League Baseball.
Volquez said he used the medication in an effort to start a family with his wife.
"As a result, I tested positive when I reported to spring training," he said. "Although I understand that I must accept responsibility for this mistake and have chosen not to challenge my suspension, I want to assure everyone that this was an isolated incident involving my genuine effort to treat a common medical issue.
Volquez, an All-Star in 2008, is already on the disabled list recovering from shoulder surgery and will be allowed to serve the suspension while on the DL. Either way, not what you want to hear if you're a Reds fan.

Specific prescribed drugs, by a real physician for a real condition, should exempt the player from the rule, until such time that the prescription expires or condition subsides.
Volquez claims that this was for fertility issues with his wife and procreation, so it should be checked out an verified, even by second or third opinions. If it proves true, he should be allowed to continue on his career as if this never happened.
