Kerry Wood to the Phillies?
The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that the Phillies, who are in need of bullpen help, could contact the Indians about the availability of closer Kerry Wood. The Indians have already made it known that Wood is available in a trade, but Wood is having a pretty poor season, posting a 7.98 ERA in just 17 games this season.
Wood has an eleven million dollar club option for the 2011 season, which is guaranteed if Wood can finish 55 games, but at this point it is unlikely he comes close.
Still, Wood could be a capable closer to compliment the Phillies' unstable bullpen. Brad Lidge appears to be coming along nicely, but having depth down the stretch could make or break a postseason run, especially the way the Phils finished out last year.
