Late Night Edition: Mariners Acquire Russell Branyan
The Mariners reacquired first baseman Russell Branyan from the Indians today for two minor leaguers, triggering the highly anticipated Indians fire sale. Branyan is hitting .263 this season with 10 home runs in 52 games this season, but hit a career high 31 home runs in Seattle last year.
The Indians acquired shortstop Juan Diaz, 21, who is hitting .295 in 254 at-bats in Single-A this season. He is still very raw, but he has potential to rise in his new organization.
They also acquired outfielder Ezequiel Carrerra, 23, who is hitting .268 in Triple-A Tacoma.

Best reasoning I've heard for this move
Is that maybe it leads to the Mets trading Ike Davis for Cliff Lee, and Branyan replaces Davis in NY.
This rumor is unfounded and just a guess, but I could see it happening.
