Orioles fire Dave Trembley

Photo

The Orioles fired manager Dave Trembley on Friday after the team posted a 15-39 record to start the season. The team is already 21.0 games back and is showing no signs of turning around. The Orioles announced third base coach Juan Samuel was appointed to interim manager.

Nothing has gone well for the Orioles so far this season, both on the offensive and pitching fronts. Top pitching prospect Brian Matusz owns a plus-5.00 ERA and a 2-6 record. It is possible the team could invest in Chris Tillman and shop Matusz in a big deal for a big name bat like Adrian Gonzalez

how would getting Adrian Gonzalez or some other big name bat help this team? They’re going nowhere this year they’d basically be giving up a lot to get Gonzalez for a short time and they’ll still finish last in the East. They should be selling off their vets like Scott and Wiggy and getting more depth prospect wise and continue to develop these guys. Yes, they’ll continue to suck, but they’re gonna suck anyway, so they might as well play guys with an eye on the future.

Bonds stands alone.

Adding a bat cant help they should just trade any veteran they have and continue to build the farm system..It cant get much worse for the O’s

I wouldn't go after Gonzo right now

I’m an O’s fan and I am hoping our GM Andy McPhail isn’t just blowing smoke up our rears when he says that the O’s are going to ‘grow the arms and buy the bats’. We’ve dabbled in the FA market the past 2 years by pursuing Texieria and Holliday. You can debate the sincerity of those efforts but we put together offers for both and were outbid by more attractive destinations.

This offseason has 3 players I find of particular interest hitting the open market, Carl Crawford, Jason Werth, and my particular favorite Adam Dunn. If the McPhail doesn’t manage to attract at least one of these guys to Baltimore then I will have to question Mr. McPhail’s plan.
