ESPNChicago.com is reporting that the White Sox have serious interest in free agent first baseman Carlos Delgado. Delgado has fully recovered from hip and other injuries that have slowed him down over the past few years. He would certainly need a minor league stint, but all indications point to him being ready to play.
"We've been talking to a handful of teams who have interest in Carlos," said David Sloane, Delgado's agent. "I expect that he will be signed by as early as next week."
The Red Sox and Angels are also interested in Delgado, with the Sox planning on holding a workout for Delgado sometime in the next week.
Delgado will almost certainly be used as a designated hitter, given his limited range and below average speed.
