Cubs to interview former manager Bob Melvin

The Cubs will add former Diamondbacks and Mariners manager Bob Melvin to the list of potential candidates for manager next season. The list already includes former Cub and Triple-A manager Ryne Sandberg, former Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez, interim manager Mike Quade, former Indians manager Eric Wedge, and a handful of other coaches around the league.

The Cubs supposedly liked Melvin back in 2003 before deciding to sign Dusty Baker, fresh off a World Series appearance. Melvin lead the Diamondbacks to the NLCS in 2007, but was fired in 2009 after the two dismal seasons that followed.

The Cubs have several very qualified to candidates to choose from, and a decision is expected before the free agency period opens.
