Victor Martinez seeking long-term extension

Boston Red Sox catcher and designated hitter Victor Martinez is seeking a long-term contract into his mid-30s, not the two year deal the Red Sox originally offered. The team will have plenty of time to negotiate a deal, unless the team believes Martinez is only valuable for the next two or three seasons. 

The team is likely to lose Adrian Beltre to free agency, so they would be smart to keep one of the best switch-hitters in the league in their lineup.
