Padres close in on free agent Chad Qualls

The Padres have added another veteran to the back-end of the bullpen by coming to terms on a deal with free agent reliever Chad Qualls. The deal is believed to be worth around 2 million dollars, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com.

Qualls pitched for the Rays and Diamondbacks and compiled a 7.32 ERA in 70 games. He also had 12 saves in 19 opportunities. Relievers tend to bounce back from year-to-year so it is possible Qualls could return to 08-09 form when posted a combined 3.22 ERA.
