ESPN.com is reporting that the Athletics have considerable interest in Mariners infielder Chone Figgins. The Athletics were aggressively pursuing third baseman Adrian Beltre before he signed with the Texas Rangers. Both the Athletics and Angels are trying to play catch up after the Rangers made a slew of moves to undermine their rivals. 

Figgins had one of his worst statistical seasons, hitting .259 with a .340 on-base percentage. He's a career .287 hitter and posted his lowest totals since 2006. 

The Athletics have the pitching depth and pieces to pull off a trade with the Mariners, it is just a matter of whether the M's want to trade within the division.
