Baltimore Orioles Sign Scott Beerer

The Baltimore Orioles have signed six-year, minor league free agent Scott Beerer to a minor league pact, according to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. Connolly also adds the Orioles will be busy with six-year, minor league free agents.

Beerer, a former second-round selection of the Colorado Rockies, spent six seasons with the organization before becoming a free agent this offseason. Beerer converted to an outfielder after not being able to reach the upper levels of the minor leagues as a pitcher; he did find some success at the plate, too.

Beerer, 29, hit .315/.356/.479 with 16 homers and 30 doubles in 511 plate appearances between Class Double-A and Triple-A for the Rockies' minor league affiliates. The 29-year-old found most of his success in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, where he hit .372/.401/.514 with 15 extra base hits in 158 plate appearances.

As a pitcher, Beerer posted a 4.79 ERA, 2.02 strikeout-to-walk ratio in over 97 innings out of the bullpen across four seasons of work.
