The Pittsburgh Pirates inked catcher Rod Barajas to a one-year, $4 million deal earlier today, but also have been making noise in minor league free agency this past week.
Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports the Pirates have signed (or re-signed) the following players this past week:
- catchers Milver Reyes and Wyatt Toregas
- second baseman Keoni De Renne and third baseman Vince Harrison (both will serve as coach)
- outfielders Jason Cooper and Michael Ryan
Also, first baseman/right fielder Steve Pearce refused his outright assignment and elected minor league free agency. Pearce was arbitration eligible before being outrighted off Pittsburgh's 40-man roster.
In other news, the New York Mets removed outfielder Jason Pridie from their 40-man roster today, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN. Crasnick adds Pridie is expected to clear waivers on Friday. The 28-year-old Pridie hit .231/.309/.370 with 18 extra base hits in 236 plate appearances with the Mets' major league squad.
