Reds Looking at Andrew Bailey

The Cincinnati Reds are looking at a possible deal for Andrew Bailey, according to Buster Olney via twitter. Jim Bowden's source at the A's confirms their interest in the Reds' 24 year-old left fielder Yonder Alonso.

Olney has had the inside track on Bailey rumors for at least a week now, pointing out that Oakland may trade Bailey if only because "his stock will never be higher than it is now." Days earlier, Olney was suggesting that the Blue Jays could be interested and might be willing to cook up a trade.

Bailey has had rumors around him since at least the trade deadline earlier this year, when Ken Rosenthal's sources suggested to him that the Rangers tried to trade for him which included a package of pitchers Robbie Erlin, Joe Weiland, and shortstop Leury Garcia. Sadly (or perhaps not), trade rumors will always swirl around players like Bailey -- a good young talent on a terrible team. Combine that with the Athletics' current limbo in waiting for a San Jose baseball park, and a Bailey trade becomes increasingly likely.

Bailey, the closer for the Oakland Athletics, is 27 and maintains a career 2.07 ERA. He made Oakland's 25-man roster in 2009, was selected to the All-Star game (albeit as Oakland's representative), and was later named the 2009 American League Rookie of the Year.
