Yesterday, it was reported that the Kansas City Royals would sign Jonathan Broxton to a one-year $4MM deal (with incentives), pending a physical.
According Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Royals have designated Jeff Bianchi for assignment in order to clear room for Broxton. Bianchi, 25, was the Royals' 2nd round draft pick back in 2005. The middle infielder (having played mostly at shortstop and second base throughout his career) hit .259/.320/.333 with 20 stolen bases in 119 games at Double-A this year.
In parts of six seasons, Bianchi has compiled a .281/.335/.410 career triple-slash line in the minors (just over 2000 plate appearances).
